Dubrovnik Summer Festival 2022

The 73rd Dubrovnik Summer Festival was closed 25 August with a magnificent Opera Gala in front of the Cathedral on which outstanding opera stars, soprano Adela Zaharia and tenor Filip Filipović performed with the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra under the direction of maestro Ivan Repušić, after which actors and musicians put away the Libertas flag in a short ceremony set to Bach’s Suite No. 3 in D major until the next festival summer.

Programme
Overview

Celebrated guitarist and Decca and Deutsche Grammophon’s blockbuster, Miloš Karadaglić, is one of the best classical guitarists of today, with even the popular BBC Music Magazine including him in their 2016 list of “Six of the Best Classical Guitarists of the past century”, as well as a passionate pioneer who aims to popularize not only classical guitar but classical music itself, taking every opportunity to not only promote the genre to the widest possible audience, but also to emphasize the importance of music and music education. The meteoric rise of this certified classical guitar star started with the signing of an exclusive recording contract with the legendary classical label Deutsche Grammophon and before long Miloš was performing sell-out concerts as a soloist with international orchestras and in recitals, and recording unanimously acclaimed albums, the first being the hugely successful Mediterraneo. Sinced then, Miloš has been winning over fans on tours and television appearances while his albums remain at the top of the music charts. His most recent album, a celebration of his commitment to commissioning new works for the guitar and innovating contemporary guitar repertoire, is entitled The Moon and the Forest and showcases premiere recordings of two brand new guitar concertos written especially for him by the great Joby Talbot and Howard Shore.

Venue Info

Rector's Palace Atrium - Dubrovnik
Location   Ul. Pred Dvorom 3

The Rector of Dubrovnik used to live in this palace during the time of his one month’s mandate, alone, without his family. The Rector’s Palace was also the seat of the Small Council, i.e., the Dubrovnik government.

In the place of the present palace there used to be a smaller castle that got completely destroyed in powered explosions several times and it was shaken by earthquakes. However, the Rector’s palace got its today’s appearance in Gothic and Renaissance periods in the 15th century. Rector's Palace is historical cultural museum today and its atrium is one of the most common places where classical concerts and recitals are held.
