Dubrovnik Summer Festival 2022

The 73rd Dubrovnik Summer Festival was closed 25 August with a magnificent Opera Gala in front of the Cathedral on which outstanding opera stars, soprano Adela Zaharia and tenor Filip Filipović performed with the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra under the direction of maestro Ivan Repušić, after which actors and musicians put away the Libertas flag in a short ceremony set to Bach’s Suite No. 3 in D major until the next festival summer.

Programme
Overview

Renowned soprano Nuria Rial will unite with the brilliant Fahmi Alqhai on the quinton, along with the widely acclaimed European vanguards of early music - the Accademia del Piacere ensemble, to bring the festival audiences an inspiring fresh music programme through which they will earnestly convey their conception of historical music as being alive and full of emotion.

Accademia del Piacere have been revealing new facets in fundamental repertoires of historical music such as the Italian Seicento (Le Lacrime di Eros, Amorti di Marte), the Spanish music of the Renaissance (Rediscovering Spain and the imminent CD Colombina) or the theatrical music of the Spanish Baroque (Muera Cupido, with Nuria Rial). This has led them to receive prizes such as Choc de Classica (France), Prelude Award (Netherlands), Opus Klassik Award 2020 to the Best Solo Vocal Recital–Opera (Muera Cupido, for Rial) and GEMA Award to the Best Spanish Baroque ensemble (2016 and 2017), among many others.

Venue Info

Rector's Palace Atrium - Dubrovnik
Location   Ul. Pred Dvorom 3

The Rector of Dubrovnik used to live in this palace during the time of his one month’s mandate, alone, without his family. The Rector’s Palace was also the seat of the Small Council, i.e., the Dubrovnik government.

In the place of the present palace there used to be a smaller castle that got completely destroyed in powered explosions several times and it was shaken by earthquakes. However, the Rector’s palace got its today’s appearance in Gothic and Renaissance periods in the 15th century. Rector's Palace is historical cultural museum today and its atrium is one of the most common places where classical concerts and recitals are held.
