Overview

Renowned pianist Lovro Pogorelić, who received his first piano lessons from his father Ivan, always achieves pianistic creations of convincing strength and undeniable individuality both as a soloist and with an orchestra.

About his interpretation of Liszt's Transcendental Études, which are a part of Pogorelić's 73rd Dubrovnik Summer Festival concert programme, Clauss Røllum-Larsen said the following:

"There is no doubt that such works require a pianist of colossal piano technique and the ability to connect it all. Pogorelić was in complete control of that. And while we enjoyed such a rare opportunity to gain a unique introduction to one of the most famous works of piano literature, the term "piano lion" could not escape our minds. This was by no means strange because the "piano lion" is described in dictionaries as "a virtuoso, a pianist who plays fiercely."

Venue Info

Rector's Palace Atrium - Dubrovnik
Location   Ul. Pred Dvorom 3

The Rector of Dubrovnik used to live in this palace during the time of his one month’s mandate, alone, without his family. The Rector’s Palace was also the seat of the Small Council, i.e., the Dubrovnik government.

In the place of the present palace there used to be a smaller castle that got completely destroyed in powered explosions several times and it was shaken by earthquakes. However, the Rector’s palace got its today’s appearance in Gothic and Renaissance periods in the 15th century. Rector's Palace is historical cultural museum today and its atrium is one of the most common places where classical concerts and recitals are held.
