Place Granvelle - Besançon
Location   Place Granvelle

Place Granvelle, also called Granvelle promenade, is a square located in Besançon in the historical district of the Boucle.

The Granvelle is up, originally a private garden Granvelle palace dating from the xvi the century. It was then a pleasure garden planted with rare and simple species and decorated with a water jet and a sundial dating from 1541.

The municipality acquired it in 1712 and opened it to the public in 1728. The architect Claude-Joseph Bertrand rearranged it from 1778, it was then that it became the Granvelle promenade which would later receive a bandstand and several statues.
