About

Luca Salsi was born in San Secondo Parmense. He studied at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma under Lucetta Bizza and attended the masterclasses of baritone Carlo Meliciani. 

He made his stage debut in Bologna in La Scala di seta. In 2000, he won the Viotti International Music Competition in Vercelli. Soon thereafter, he was invited to perform on some of the world’s most prestigious opera stages (the New York Metropolitan Opera, Milan’s La Scala, London’s Royal Opera House, Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper, the Washington National Opera, the Salzburg Festival, the Los Angeles Opera, the Berlin Staatsoper, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Rome Opera, the Teatro Regio in Parma, The Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Torre del Lago Puccini Festival, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and the Teatro Real in Madrid). Luca Salsi has sung under the direction of numerous conductors, including James Conlon, Daniele Gatti, Plácido Domingo, Gustavo Dudamel, Nicola Luisotti, Riccardo Muti, Renato Palumbo, Donato Renzetti, and Alberto Zedda. He has also worked with directors like Robert Carsen, Hugo De Ana, Antony Minghella, Werner Herzog, Franco Zeffirelli, and David McVicar. He made his Barcelona debut at the Liceu in La Forza del destino (Don Carlo) and his Paris Opera debut in La Traviata. He also performed for the first time with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Macbeth with Riccardo Muti conducting. He performs many of the great Verdi roles: Count di Luna in Il Trovatore, Francesco Foscari in I due Foscari, the title roles of Nabucco and Rigoletto, Carlo in Ernani, Renato in Un ballo in Maschera, Posa in Don Carlo, and Ford in Falstaff. More recently, he took on the roles of Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier) at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Scarpia in Tosca in Rome. He has sung Rigoletto in Amsterdam, Amonasro (Aida) at the Salzburg Festival under the direction of Riccardo Muti, Renato at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Posa at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, the Count di Luna, Ashton (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Miller (Luisa Miller) at the Metropolitan Opera, Nabucco at the Verona Arena, Macbeth at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Verdi Festival in Parma, and Miller in Barcelona. He opened the 2017 / 2018 season at Milan’s La Scala in Andrea Chénieralongside Anna Netrebko.

Projects: 
Macbeth at La Fenice in Venice, Nabucco and Andrea Chénier at the Vienna Staatsoper, Otello (Iago) with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and Tosca (Scarpia) at the Paris Opera.
