Programme
Overview

Kristine Opolais made history in 2014 at the Metropolitan Opera when, just one day after her debut as Butterfly, she triumphed as Mimí in the premiere of 'La Bohème'. In Munich that same year, she sang Manon Lescaut alongside Jonas Kaufmann.

And she most recently made emotions run high in Vienna as Tosca in Martin Kusej's extraordinary production. No wonder, then, that Kristīne Opolais declares, with a laugh, 'I'm in love with Puccini - he knows me very well!' One thing matters above all to the Latvian soprano: 'I can't sing at all without real emotions. The sound I produce with my voice is only possible through my emotions. A beautiful voice alone means nothing to me. When I sing, I open my soul - my pain, my joy, my fears.' The audience can hear this for themselves when the irrepressible Carmen of the 2023 Oper im Steinbruch festival presents this evening of arias and songs at Esterhazy Palace together with pianist Agnese Eglina, and featuring music by Giuseppe Verdi, Georges Bizet, and, of course, Giacomo Puccini.
