Festival

HERBSTGOLD - Festival in Eisenstadt 2023

HERBSTGOLD - Festival in Eisenstadt from September 9th to 24th under the motto "Longing".

Programme
Gioachino Rossini: Guillaume Tell (William Tell): Overture
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Violin Concerto no. 3 in G major, "Strassburg", K216
Antonín Dvořák: Symphony no. 7 in D minor, Op.70
Overview

The visitors from Italy and conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada will bring the symphonic programme of Herbstgold 2023 to a yearning passionate close with Antonín Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony: its islands of lyricism, especially in the slow movement, will shine especially brightly against the otherwise somewhat dark, dramatic background of the work.

'If there is a miracle in Mozart's oeuvre, it is the creation of this concerto', wrote Mozart biographer Alfred Einstein about the First Violin Concerto in G major, K. 216, with which Julian Rachlin makes another appearance as soloist in this final concert. Melodic grace and virtuosity perfectly balance one another in the first movement. The central Adagio is like an intimate vocal scene, and among the surprises of the finale, Mozart fades in the popular melody 'Wilhelmus van Nassouwe'. The overture to 'Guglielmo Tell', the great opera that marked Gioachino Rossini's early retirement, would later become enormously popular on radio, film, and TV: a souvenir from the core repertoire of the Filarmonica della Scala, whose members work as the opera orchestra of La Scala in Milan, following the example of the Vienna Philharmonic.
