Overview

Romanticism, classical modernism and avant-garde of the 1968s - this special mixture guarantees an exciting concert evening. First, there is Brahms' Violin Concerto, this 19th-century magnum opus that is as symphonic as it is concertante. "Every time I play the Brahms Violin Concerto, it feels like owning a perfect palace with exceptional exterior and interior design," confesses Vadim Gluzman. The violin virtuoso from the Ukraine embodies the great tradition of the Russian school and yet – as his epochal recording of the work already showed – has his very own gripping approach to the solo part of this masterpiece. With Stravinsky's Sacre du printemps, conductor Philippe Auguin brings one of the great scores of the 20th century to life. Dissonant sharpened sounds and brute rhythms triggered the biggest theater scandal in music history in Paris in 1913; today they are regarded as the epitome of an enthralling and rousing musical language. The mysterious string sounds of Pierre Boulez'Livre pour cordes finally continue this story up to the threshold of the present.
