Programme
Overview

Blues meets symphonic highlights, exciting arrangements and brand new compositions.

Once a year, the Bern Symphony Orchestra teams up with Casino Bern and creates a platform for a very special encounter: a pop/jazz/blues great meets the BSO and shares the stage with them. In this way, something new is created with "Über ds Chrüz".

After the huge success of the first edition, the success story of this concert format was to be continued last season, but the concert had to be postponed due to the pandemic. Luckily, all of the intended guests – the conductor Wayne Marshall and the blues singer and songwriter Philipp Fankhauser and his band, who are well-known far beyond the Swiss borders – could be won a second time. Philipp Fankhauser is enjoying great success with his current album Let Life Flow . With Wayne Marshall - from 2014 to 2020 chief conductor of the WDR Funkhausorchester, organist and jazz musician - a renowned artist with deep roots in the blues steps up to the conductor's podium.

On the evening of the concert, the BSO will play two works from the symphonic repertoire and, together with Philipp Fankhauser, perform a selection of his songs in arrangements by the young conductor and composer Sebastian Schwab. The conclusion is a grand finale composed by Schwab and Fankhauser especially for the evening, which combines the best of both worlds.
