Since his debut with Deutsche Oper in Berlin in the role of Zurga in The Pearl Fishers alongside Patricia Ciofi and Joseph Calleja, Etienne Dupuis has been invited to the world’s greatest opera houses and has emerged as one of the most promising baritones of his generation.

Etienne Dupuis studied singing at McGill University in Montreal then joined the Atelier Lyrique at the Paris Opera where he made his debut in productions of CarmenHänsel und GretelRigolettoDie Zauberflöte, La Bohème and Turandot. He went on to sing the roles of Lescaut in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut with the New Israeli Opera, Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief by Menotti with Quebec Opera, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte in Vancouver and Tours, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet in Quebec and at the Hawaii Opera Theatre, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Marseille, Montpellier, Massy, Avignon and Montreal and Johnny Rockfort in the operatic version of Starmania in Quebec and Montreal.

In Berlin, he has sung Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Silvio in Pagliacci, Marcello in La Bohème, a role he took up again in Vancouver, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, and Germont in La Traviata. More recently he has sung Hoël in Dinorah at the Philharmonie in Berlin, Posa in Don Carlos and the title role in Eugene Onegin with Deutsche Oper in Berlin, André Thorel in Massenet’s Thèrèse and La Vivandière by Benjamin Godard at the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier, Valentin in Faust, Joe de Rocher in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, Zurga in The Pearl Fishers, Germont in La Traviata at the Opéra du Rhin, Nantes Opera and Zurich Opera, the Count in La nozze di Figaro with Calgary Opera, Metternich in L’Aiglon by Arthur Honegger and Jacques Ibert with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Lescaut in Massenet’s Manon in Marseille, Ramiro in L’Heure Espagnole at the Glyndebourne Festival and Lord Cecil in Maria Stuarda in Avignon.

Forthcoming engagements include Claudio (Béatrice et Benedict) at La Monnaie in Brussels, Posa (Don Carlos), Germont (La Traviata) and Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. He is also making his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Metropolitan Opera New York and the Liceu in Barcelona as well as returning to the Paris Opera for several productions.
