Festival

Sounds of the Dolomites 2019

The mountains take center stage in one of the most charming music festivals of Trentino. Sounds of the Dolomites, now at its 25 edition, takes place from June 28 to September 15. International musicians and artists will perform in the outdoors, near huts, refuges, forts and beautiful locations which can be reached on foot along well-marked paths, with shows starting at dawn and ending late at night.

The love for music and for the mountains, for art and nature, all in one festival!

A series of important events with famous Italian and international artists will follow.

Programme
Overview

Great innovators explore the sounds of the 21st century with cello and mandolin

Born in Be'er Sheva, in southern Israel, Avi Avital began studying mandolin at the age of eight and while still young he joined the mandolin orchestra directed by Russian-born violinist Simche Nathanson. He studied at the Jerusalem Music Academy and then the Cesare Pollini Conservatory in Padua. In 2007, he was the first mandolin player in history to be honoured at the prestigious Aviv Competition in Israel. He is now an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist and has performed with some of the world’s top orchestras - including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin - and is much sought after on the international festival circuit.

An internationally-renowned Italian cellist, Giovanni Sollima is also one of the world’s most accomplished composers. He has worked with musicians such as Gidon Kremer, Viktoria Mullova and Mario Brunello, and has played with the Teatro della Scala Orchestra, the Santa Cecilia Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra, but his wide-ranging creativity has seen him engage with diverse milieus and incorporate the genius of Patti Smith, Stefano Bollani, Paolo Fresu, Peter Greenaway and John Turturro. Returning to the Dolomites will be an undeniable delight for him.

Venue Info

Rifugio Micheluzzi - Val di Fassa
Location   Localita Val Duron 1, 38031, Campitello di Fassa, Italy

This completely refurbished structure, with its traditional style, will give you the chance to sample the cosy family atmosphere that's typical of mountain lodges. Inside, you can enjoy a welcome coffee break in the bar.

You'll be pleasantly surprised by the foyer and living room, which are completely wood-clad, and the two terraces, where you will have the sense of being immersed in nature.

There are 10 bedrooms available for taking a well-earned rest, which are suitable for intrepid explorers of all ages, and are all provided with linen and towels. The kitchen offers typical homemade dishes from the Val di Fassa-Trentino region.

The Val Duron is probably the most beautiful of the lateral valleys of the Val di Fassa and has one of the most spectacular views of the Trentino Dolomites. They are entirely located in the town of Campitello di Fassa. This valley of average altitude levels out and opens up to the presence of two of the most sublime summits that you will ever set your eyes on: that of Sassopiatto, a splendid peak that attracts some of the most experienced trekking enthusiasts, and the Catinaccio Group (Rosengarten, meaning Rose Garden, in German).

Lush, vast and surrounded by open meadows and woods, this setting is especially emotive at sunset. It can also be enjoyed when you're wrapped up warm in the autumn, when the sun starts to set early and offers a rose-tinged view of the Catinaccio Group, thanks to the unique mineral properties of the Dolomite rocks.

The valley has something for everyone: it’s great for families, who can enjoy leisurely walks through its grassy, high-altitude alpine pastures; or for trekking enthusiasts, who will find the departure points for various paths in the direction of Catinaccio and Sassolungo. The ski mountaineering available during the winter is fantastic.

The valley also attracts cycling enthusiasts, thanks to the steep inclines, which make this area a very appealing mountain biking challenge.

Rifugio Micheluzzi is a welcoming and contemporary base for mountaineers and walkers.
