String instruments without borders where the mountains are the essence
A decidedly international project, it brings together eminent musicians from Italy, Switzerland, Sweden and Great Britain. Beginning with violinist Lorenza Borrani, she trained at the Fiesole Music School and the Florence Conservatory before embarking on a career that has seen her perform as a soloist with some of the world’s foremost orchestras, including the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, win prestigious awards and establish in 2007 Spira Mirabilis, the musical laboratory for professional musicians. Swiss musician Ursina Braun also joined the Spira Mirabilis project, having played the cello since the age of 6 and having won awards that include a gold medal at the “Mainardi” competition at the Salzburg Mozarteum. Riikka Repo and Mats Zetterqvist are, instead, from Sweden. Repo, a passionate, sophisticated chamber musician is currently co-principal viola of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Zetterqvist, who joined the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in 1994 as guest leader and was principal second violin from 2009 to 2017, has been a soloist with all the leading orchestras of Sweden. Carla Maria Rodrigues trained at the Yehudi Menuhin School studying both viola and violin and since a young age she has been performing as soloist and chamber musician in London’s main concert halls. She now lives in the USA where she is principal viola of the San Francisco Opera.
