About
Philippe Talbot was born in Nantes and studied voice in his native city before enrolling at the CNIPAL in Marseille.
In 2008, he received the Prize for Best New Tenor at the Pavarotti International Singing Competition in Modena. Since then, he has appeared in some of the great operas of the French repertoire: Hippolyte et Aricie (the title role), Romeo and Juliet, Béatrice et Bénédict (Bénédict), Lakmé,(Gerald)… He sang in a concert version of L’Enfant et les Sortilèges with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Honegger’s Le Roi David with the Prague Symphony Orchestra.
Highly respected as a singer of the Mozartian repertoire, he has performed in Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio) in Germany and Spain, Così fan tutte (Ferrando) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Idomeneo (Arbace) in Tours, and The Magic Flute (Tamino) first in Besançon and then in concert with the Ensemble Matheus at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and in Toulouse. He is particularly fond of the bel canto repertoire: Almaviva (The Barber of Seville) in Nantes, Belgium and Berlin’s Deutsche Oper, Ramiro (La Cenerentola) in Bremen and Enschede, Bertram (La Donna del Lago) at the Palais Garnier, Vitellozzo (Lucrezia Borgia) in Monte-Carlo, and Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor) in Avignon and Lille…
He then sang the role of the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto) at the National Theatre of Greece in Athens and Pong (Turandot) in Toulon and Toulouse.
In concert, he has sung the tenor section in numerous works including Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Debussy’s L’Enfant Prodigue, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Salieri’s Les Danaïdes (in Vienna and Versailles with the Talens Lyriques)… More recently, he sang the role of Almaviva at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and in Saint-Étienne under the direction of Alberto Zedda. After that, he played Bénédict in Luxembourg, Don Ottavio at the Peralada Festival, Fadinard (Il Cappello di paglia di Firenze) in Nantes, Piquillo (La Périchole) at the New York City Opera, Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor) in Amsterdam and Lille, Amenophis (Moïse et Pharaon) in Marseille, Zizi (Ali-Baba) and Alfred (Die Fledermaus) at the Opéra Comique, Corentin (Meyerbeer’s Dinorah) in Berlin and Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de Perles) in Miami…
