Italian choreographer Laura Scozzi made her Royal Opera debut in 2007 on La Fille du régiment, directed by Laurent Pelly, and has since returned to create the choreography for Cendrillon, also directed by Pelly.
Scozzi was born in Milan and began dancing at the age of six. She studied acting at the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Rome and several styles of dance at various schools. She also studied sociology and photography before joining the Ecole Internationale de Mimodrame de Paris Marcel Marceau. She went on to create her own company, Opinioni in Movimento, for which she has choreographed several shows combining contemporary and hip-hop dance, acting and singing. She regularly collaborates with Pelly, their productions including Platée, La Belle Hélène and La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein, and also works regularly with Coline Serreau, Jean-Louis Grinda and Emmanuelle Bastet. Her ballet choreography includes La dolce vita(Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève) and The Seven Deadly Sins (Paris Opéra).
As a director, Scozzi’s productions include Die Zauberflöte and Orphée aux enfers(Nuremberg and Bordeaux), Benvenuto Cellini and Il viaggio a Reims (Nuremberg) and Les Indes galantes (Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse).
