About

By borrowing the name of a TCCATA by the Italian-born German composer GIROLAMO KAPSBERGER, CHRISTINA PLUHAR set the tone that would rule the fate of the arpeggata, a vocal and instrumental that was founded in 2000.

L'Arpeggiata brings together artists from various musical backgrounds, established on both sides of Europe and the world, around program-projects, cleverly concocted by Christina Pluhar according to her musicological research, her meetings, the curiosity that drives him and his immeasurable talent. The sound of the ensemble, which is formed around the plucked strings, is immediately identifiable.

Since its inception, L'Arpeggiata has aimed to explore the rich music of the little-known repertoire of early Baroque Roman, Neapolitan and Spanish composers. The ensemble has given itself as guiding principles the instrumental improvisation and research on the instrumentarium  in the purest baroque tradition, as well as the creation and staging of "event" shows. It thus promotes the meeting of music and song with other baroque disciplines, inseparable in their time, such as dance and theater, and openness to various musical genres, such as jazz and traditional music.

True invitations to dream, the programs of L'Arpeggiata revive the surprise, the unexpected, and restore the Baroque to its original meaning: a pearl of irregular shape (16th century), an astonishing element (18th century). Works from the Baroque period offer the Arpeggiata a setting of freedom where artists from here and elsewhere flourish, where genres and traditions mingle, making each concert a unique encounter.

Ruhrtriennale, Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, Opéra de Bordeaux, Vredenburg Center Utrecht, Philharmonie Köln, etc.) and around the world (Carnegie Hall New York, Sydney City Recital Hall, Brisbane Festival, Festival International Cervantino de Guanajuato, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space, Karura Hall, etc.) . The Arpeggiata was hosted in residence in 2012 and 2013 at Carnegie Hall New York, Wigmore Hall London and at the Poissy Theater. In June 2011, the Arpeggiata premiered the little-known opera by Giovanni Andrea Bontempi, Il Paride  (1662) at the Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci, staged by Christoph von Bernuth. The opera will be performed again in August 2012 at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik.

In France and abroad, L'Arpeggiata discography is unanimously and constantly praised by critics and the public. Winner of 2009, 2010 and 2011 of the  Echo Klassik Preis  in Germany ,  2009 of the Edison Price in Holland,  2008 of the  VSCD Musiekprijs,  L'Arpeggiata has been regularly rewarded for its rich discography, since its albums at Alpha ("La Villanella", "Homo fugit velut umbra ”,“ La Tarantella ”,“ All'Improvviso ”,“ Rappresentatione di Anima, et di Corpo ”), then Naïve (“ Los Impossibles ”) until his recent collaboration with Emi / Virgin classics (“ Teatro d 'Amore', 'Via Crucis',' Monteverdi  Vespro della Beata Vergine) with “10 of Classica Repertory”, Cannes Classical Awards, “Platinum Timbre”  of International Opera , “Disc of the Month” BBC Magazine, “Exellentia Pizzicato Award”,  ffff   Télérama…

L'Arpeggiata's latest album, “Los Pájaros perdidos”, released in January 2012, is devoted to traditional Latin American music. In March 2013, the album “Mediterraneo”, recorded with fado star Misia, will be released on Virgin Classics.

Released on the screens in March 2011, the film  Tous les soleils , directed by the writer Philippe Claudel, was inspired by the music of the disc "La Tarantella". Two tracks from the album were re-recorded for this occasion with the voice of lead actor Stefano Accorsi.

L'Arpeggiata is supported by the Ministry of Culture - Drac Ile-de-France, the Regional Council of Ile-de-France and by the Orange Foundation. He received support for his projects from Onda, Spedidam, Adami, Culturesfrance.
