French bass Jean Teitgen made his Royal Opera debut in 2013 as Le Sire de Béthune (Les Vêpres siciliennes) and returns in the 2018/19 Season as Zuniga (Carmen).
Teitgen studied economics in Rouen and singing at the Paris Conservatoire. He has sung for opera companies including La Monnaie, Brussels, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Paris, Opéra national de Bordeaux, Opéra national de Lorraine, Opéra de Dijon, Opéra de Toulon, the Opéra-Comique, Paris, Teatro Real, Madrid, Opéra de Monte Carlo, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Angers Nantes Opéra, Bergen National Opera and Grand Théâtre de Genève, and for the Maggio Musicale, Florence, and Chorégies d’Orange. His repertory includes Leporello (Don Giovanni), Raimondo Bidebent (Lucia di Lammermoor), King Heinrich (Lohengrin), Jacopo Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Alvise Badoaro (La Gioconda), Nourabad (Les Pêcheurs de perles), Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Timur (Turandot), Le Sultan de Khaïtán (Marouf savetier du Caire), Palémon (Thaïs), High Priest (Enescu’s Oedipe) and Arkel (Pelléas et Mélisande).
Teitgen is a prolific recitalist and has appeared in concert with leading ensembles across Europe. His discography includes Lully’s Persée, Saint-Saëns’s Proserpine and Berlioz’s Les Troyens.
