About

Paterson grew up in Glasgow and studied singing and violin at the then Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He began his career singing in the Opera North chorus, and made his breakthrough as a soloist in 2007 singing Fasolt under Simon Rattle for the Salzburg Festival. Engagements include Gunther (Götterdämmerung) for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Paris Opéra and Bavarian State Opera, Wotan (Das Rheingold) for Bayreuth Festival, Jokanaan (Salome) for the Salzburg Festival, Leontes (The Winter’s Tale, world premiere), Amfortas (Parsifal), Méphistophélès (Faust) and Don Giovanni for English National Opera, Fasolt for companies including La Scala, Milan, Berlin State Opera and Paris Opéra, and Forester (The Cunning Little Vixen) in Bergen.

Concert performances include Wotan (Das Rheingold) under Daniel Barenboim at the BBC Proms, Hans Sachs (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) under Mark Elder with the Hallé and Dream of Gerontius with Elder at the Bridgwater Hall.
