About

Giancarlo Guerrero is the five-time GRAMMY® Award-winning Music Director of the Wroclaw Philharmonic at the National Forum of Music. He made his Wroclaw Philharmonic debut in October 2016, and was the immediate and overwhelming choice of the institution to become its Music Director. For the past decade Guerrero has been Music Director of the Nashville Symphony. During his tenure the orchestra has toured extensively, including to New York’s Carnegie Hall, and made more than a dozen award winning recordings for Naxos.

“Giancarlo Guerrero excels at large-scale orchestral showpieces, and he was clearly in his element with this massive 50-minute work (The Planets). The slow, relentless buildup to a full crescendo in Mars was masterfully achieved, the climaxes delivered with brutal force.

Guerrero and the orchestra brought Holst's instrumental colors vividly to life, the transparent variety of dynamics wonderfully clear.”
Miami Herald

As a guest conductor, Guerrero enjoys relationships with many orchestras in the United States and Europe, including the Boston Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, and Cincinnati Symphony Sao Paolo State Symphony Orchestra in Brazil, Brussels Philharmonic, Deutsches Symphony Orchestra, Berlin, Lisbon, Orchestre Philharmonic de Radio France and the Orchestre National de France in Paris, Netherlands Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, and the BBC SO among others. Guerrero is also the Principal Guest Condcutor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Lisbon.

Having a broad and expansive repertoire, Giancarlo Guerrero is also particularly engaged with conducting training orchestras and works regularly with the Curtis School of Music, Colburn School in Los Angeles, Yale Philharmonia, and in recent years has developed a relationship with the National Youth Orchestra (NYO2) in New York, created and operated by the Weill Institute of Music at Carnegie Hall.

Amongst his many initiatives in Nashville is a dedication to the performance of new works by contemporary American composers, championed through commissions, recordings, and world premieres, which has made Nashville a destination for contemporary music, and has created a calling card for that orchestra.

Giancarlo Guerrero previously held posts as the Principal Guest Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra Miami Residenct (2011-2016), Music Director of the Eugene Symphony (2002-2009), and Associate Conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra (1999-2004).
