Franz Peter David began his theatre work in 1972 at the Freie Volksbühne Berlin and moved to the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer in 1973. This was followed by Engagements at the Hamburg Schauspielhaus, the Schauspiel Köln and the Hamburg Thalia Theater.
Since 1994 he has been Light Designer and head of the lighting department at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, where he has contributed to the productions "Macbeth", "der ferne Klang" and "La traviata". He worked with set designers such as Erich Wonder, Karl Ernst Herrmann and Rolf together Glittenberg, as well as with Directors such as Ruth Berghaus, Luc Bondy, Doris Dörrie, Jürgen Flimm, Götz Friedrich, Peter Greenaway, Harry Kupfer, Thomas Langhoff, Hans neuenfels, Robert Wilson, and was for the light in the Work of Luigi Nono, the artist Dieter Hacker, and well-known choreographers such as Maurice Béjart, Patrice Bart and Vladimir Malakhov responsible.
In addition to his work at the Berlin Opera Houses, Franz Peter David designed the lighting for various Musicals. Invitations have taken him to Amsterdam, London, Glasgow, Vienna, Brussels, Tokyo, Stuttgart, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Düsseldorf and Zurich, as well as to the festivals in Salzburg, Bregenz, Innsbruck and Aix-en-Provence.
