About

In addition to studying the piano, Florian Sempey began his training as an opera singer in the class of Françoise Detchnenique at the Libourne Conservatoire. In 2007 he entered the Conservatoire national de Bordeaux in the class of Maryse Castets and the following year, he won the Opera first prize and the Audience Prize at the Amis du Grand Théâtre - Opéra national de Bordeaux Singing Competition. He made his debut on the stage of the Opéra national de Bordeaux at the age of 21 singing the role of Papageno and has returned there regularly since. In 2010, he began a two-year residency at the Paris Opera’s Atelier and in the seasons which followed he appeared in numerous productions. In 2012, he was awarded the Paris Opera’s Prix Carpeaux. In 2013, he was nominated in the “Revelation Opera Singer” category at the Victoires de la Musique Classique. 

The role of Figaro in Il Barbiere di Seviglia, which he has performed at the Paris Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, the Rome Opera, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Marseille Opera, the Grand Théâtre in Luxembourg and the Chorégies d’Orange marked his early career. He opened the 2017 / 2018 season at London’s Royal Opera House (Schaunard in La Bohème and Papageno). He has made guest appearances at the Paris Opera (Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Figaro and Malatesta in Don Pasquale, the Comte de Nevers in Les Huguenots), the Cologne Opera, the Avignon Opera and the Bordeaux Opera (Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor). 
He appeared at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam (Valentin in Faust), the Deutsche Oper in Berlin (Alfonse XI in La Favorite), the Drottningholms Slottsteater in Sweden and the Opéra Royal in Versailles where he made his debut in the role of the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro
He then performed at the Opéra Comique (Dr Falke in Die Fledermaus), the Marseille Opera (Cecil in Maria Stuarda), the Limoges Opera (Dandini in La Cenerentola), the Saint-Étienne Opera (Duparquet in Ciboulette, the Touranien Chief in Le Mage, and Figaro). He also performs an extensive repertoire of music in concert (Mahler, Chausson, Puccini, Berlioz, Rameau, Vivaldi, etc.) as well as in recital with the pianist Antoine Palloc.

Projects: 
Papageno at the Paris Opera, Lelio (Berlioz) at the Vienna Musikverein, Figaro at the Bordeaux Opera, and the title role in Hamlet at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.
