Unforgettable experiences - stimulating dance - local and global meeting place
At the turn of the millennium, Oslo was a city foreign dance artists would pass by on their tours. They either went to Stockholm or Bergen, and this wasn’t good enough for a capital.
Determined to change this, eager enthusiasts took charge and founded CODA Oslo International Dance Festival in the spring of 2001. A little over a year later, in autumn 2002, the festival opened with the Merce Cunningham company itself at Oslo Concert Hall.
Now, almost 20 years later, dance as an art form stands stronger than ever before in the Capital Region and Norway. The festival has been pivotal in this development.
Every other year the festival gathers the best of Norwegian and international dance to the Nordic region's largest dance festival together with our five main partners: Dansens hus, The Norwegian Opera and Ballet, Bærum Kulturhus, Black Box teater and Riksscenen. But dance does not only belong on stages, and the festival has shown dance at bars, in the streets and other places where you’d least expect it.
