Verbier Festival 2026
The Verbier Festival 2026 invites you to experience classical music at its most vibrant, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Swiss Alps. Each summer, this unique gathering transforms the alpine village of Verbier into a global meeting point for the world’s finest musicians and the next generation of rising stars — a place where tradition meets discovery, and every performance feels alive with possibility.
Clara-Jumi Kang and Sunwook Kim, both renowned for their fiery temperament, have triumphed in numerous international competitions. They perform works by Strauss, Respighi, and Weinberg, confronting the Romantic heritage with the turmoil of the 20th century. This marks the German violinist’s first appearance in Verbier — a perfect opportunity to discover the full breadth of her talent.
Clara-Jumi Kang on violin and Sunwook Kim on piano come together for a program of sonatas that explores the expressive richness of the violin and piano repertoire. The evening begins with Ottorino Respighi’s Sonata in B minor, where lyrical finesse and harmonic color combine to create an atmosphere that is both intense and subtle. This is followed by Mieczysław Weinberg’s Sonata No. 4, Op. 39, a dramatic and emotive work that showcases the performers’ sensitivity, highlighting the expressive depth of each instrument.
After the intermission, the duo presents Richard Strauss’s Sonata in E-flat major, Op. 18, a composition imbued with light and virtuosity, where violin and piano engage in an elegant and energetic dialogue. Through this program, Kang and Kim offer the audience a captivating journey across different eras and styles, blending intensity, poetry, and refinement, and demonstrating the timeless richness of the violin-piano duo.
