Damir Ismagilov is the main lighting designer of the Moscow art theatre. Chekhov, Bolshoi theatre, Honored worker of culture of the Russian Federation (2002), Honored artist of the Russian Federation (2008), Professor of the Moscow art theatre school.

Damir Ismagilov graduated from the Theatre art and technical school in 1978 and was hired as an illuminator at the Moscow Art theatre. In the future, he led the team of illuminators of the Small stage, where he began his creative activity as a lighting artist, working on the performances "Way", "Father and son", "trailer", "Equus", "tattooed rose".

In 1982-1987 he took part in the reconstruction of the theater building in Kamergersky lane, starting with the development of the project of equipping the stage with lighting equipment. He supervised the acceptance of installation and commissioning of the lighting complex of the Main stage. Subsequently, he participated in the construction of a New building of the Bolshoi theatre and reconstruction of the main stage of the Bolshoi theatre.

In 1987 he graduated from the production faculty of the Moscow art theatre school and became the chief lighting artist of Moscow art theatre. A. P. Chekhov. Collaborated with leading domestic and foreign filmmakers, among them Oleg Yefremov, Oleg Tabakov, Lev Dodin, Valery Fokin, Sergei Zhenovach, Leonid Kheifets, Roman Viktyuk, mark Rozovsky, Kama Ginkas, Vladimir Andreev, Galina Volchek, Roman Kozak, Kirill Serebrennikov, Yelena Nevezhina, Tadashi Suzuki, Vladimir Petrov, Timur Chkheidze, Nikolai Sheiko, Mindaugas Karbauskis, Grigory Kozlov, Vladimir Petrov, Evgeny Pisarev and Konstantin Bogomolov. In the years of working in the theatre has collaborated with such Directors and choreographers as Vladimir Vasilyev, Boris Pokrovsky, Peter Ustinov, Alexander Titel Boris Eifman, Peter Konvichny, Alexei Ratmansky, Sergei Vikharev, Eimuntas Nekrosius, Alla Sigalova, Irkin Gabitov, Yuri Burlaka, David Pountney, Dmitry Bertman. In total, he designed more than 400 performances. Since 1987, he taught artistic and lighting design of the play at the Moscow theatre art and technical school; since 2000, he teaches theatrical lighting at the Moscow art theatre Studio School. The author of the book Theatre lighting (2005).
