About

Bo Skovhus was born in Ikast, Denmark and studied voice at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, the Royal Opera Academy in Copenhagen and in New York. A regular guest performer at the Vienna Staatsoper, he was made a Kammersänger there in 1997. 

His repertoire includes the title roles of Don Giovanni, Wozzeck, Eugene Onegin and Hamlet as well as the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, the Count in Capriccio, the Barber in Die Schweigsame Frau, Mandryka in Arabella, Storch in Intermezzo, Prince Yeletsky in The Queen of Spades, Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde, Amfortas in Parsifal, Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Rodrigue in the French version of Don Carlos, Frank and Fritz/Pierrot in Die Tote Stadt, Orestes in Iphigénie en Tauride, and the title role in de H.W. von Waltershausen’s Oberst Chabert. 
In 2012, he made his debut in the title role of Reimann’s Lear in Hamburg and played Nick Shadow in The Rake’s Progress for the first time at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. More recently, he appeared as the Count (Noces de Figaro) in Vienna and Düsseldorf, Amfortas in Berlin, Nick Shadow in Turin, the Count (Capriccio) in Chicago, Peter (Hänsel und Gretel) in Madrid, Danilo (Die Lustige Witwe), the title role in Dallapiccola’s Il Prigioniero in Cologne, Mandryka in Dresden, Beckmesser and the title role of Lear at the Paris Opera, Henze’s Das Floss der Medusa at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, and Siskov (From the House of the Dead) in Munich. He also played Dr Schön (Lulu) in Munich and performed at the 2015 Salzburg Festival in Wolfgang Rihm’s Die Eroberung von Mexico (in the role of Cortez). Bo Skovhus has appeared on the stages of some of the most prestigious opera houses and concert halls. 
He also gives recitals with pianists like Helmut Deutsch, Stefan Vladar, Andreas Haefliger, Yefim Bronfman, Leif Ove Andsnes, Christoph Eschenbach and Daniel Barenboim and he is accompanied on the harp by Xavier de Maistre. His concert repertoire includes works by Gustav Mahler, Frank Martin’s Jedermann Monologe, Zemlinsky’s Lyric Symphony and Scandinavian music.

Projects: 
the title roles of Ernst Krenek’s Karl V at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Eugene Onegin at the Hamburg Staatsoper.
