About

Benjamin Bernheim studied at the Conservatoire de Lausanne with Gary Magby, Dale Duesing and Giacomo Aragall and then, thanks to the Foundation Leenaards, he was able to attend Carlo Bergonzi’s Accademia Verdiana. In 2008, he joined the Zurich Opera’s Opera Studio for a season and, since 2010, he has been a member of the Zurich Opera’s troupe during which time he has sung the roles of Cassio (Otello), Narraboth (Salomé), Spalanzani (Contes d’Hoffmann), Zinovy Ismailov (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), Walter Capito (Mathis der Maler), and Bob Boles (Peter Grimes)...

He has also made guest appearances at the Lyon Opera (Edmondo in Manon Lescaut, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi), the Monnaie in Brussels (Malcolm in Macbeth), and the Bordeaux Opera (Cassio). In 2012, he made his debut at both the Salzburg Easter Festival and the Salzburg Whitsun Festival (Sparkos in Cléopâtre and Agenore in Il Re pastore). He returned there in 2013 to perform in Don Carlos (the Count of Lerma) and Rienzi (Baroncelli) under the direction of Philippe Jordan and again in 2014 for Fierrabras (Eginhard). That same year, he performed at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Oedipus Rex (the Shepherd) under the direction of Daniele Gatti, in Cléopâtre (Sparkos) with Michel Plasson and in the Messiah under the baton of Nathalie Stutzmann. He also sang the roles of Tamino (The Magic Flute) in Dresden, and Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Tebaldo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) in Zurich. This season, he makes his debut in the role of Rodolfo (La Bohème) in Zurich and sings Erik (The Flying Dutchman) and Matteo (Arabella, under the direction of Christian Thielemann) in Dresden. He has worked with numerous directors, including Peter Stein, Sven-Erich Bechtholf, Grischa Asagaroff, Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser, Guy Joosten, Andreas Homoki, Christof Loy, Eric Vigié, and David Pountney. He has also worked with numerous conductors, including, among others, Zubin Mehta, Marc-André Dalbavie, William Christie, Paul Daniel, Kazushi Ono, Fabio Luisi, Teodor Currentzis, Cornelius Meister, Daniele Gatti, Keri-Lynn Wilson, and Vladimir Fedoseyev.

Projects:
Cassio at the Easter Festival in Salzburg, Berlioz’ Roméo et Juliette at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, the Italian Singer (Der Rosenkavalier) at La Scala in Milan, Edmondo (Manon Lescaut) and Nicias (Thaïs) at the Whitsun Festival in Salzburg, and a Bernstein / Gershwin concert at the Chorégies d’Orange.
