Overview

The monuments of the repertoire will be performed by pianist Igor Levit, winner of the 2018 Gilmore Artist Award, and artistic director Renaud Capuçon, conducting.

In the spring of 1786, Mozart simultaneously composed The Marriage of Figaro and his 23rd piano concerto. The first, a lively and rebellious opera inspired by Beaumarchais, wittily denounces the abuses of power, under the guise of comedy. The second, with a luminous grace, combines energy and poetic depth, notably in its famous Adagio, suspended between dream and abandon. Nine years later, in 1795, Haydn composed his 104th symphony, at the height of his career. Written in London, this final orchestral work testifies to his humor, his formal mastery, and an unparalleled public and financial triumph.
