Overview

Two masterpieces of resilience conducted by the great conductor Christoph Eschenbach.

Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto, completed in 1802, marked a turning point in his career, as he faced the gradual loss of his hearing. In C minor, it offers a balanced dialogue between soloist and orchestra, with a moving slow movement blending Mozartian influence and personal style. It will be performed by Mao Fujita, winner of the 2017 Clara Haskil Competition. Another composer, another pivotal moment: Schumann, after long favoring the piano, composed his Second Symphony in 1845-46, a luminous work born despite his health problems. In four movements, it expresses a journey from darkness to joy, embodying the saving power of music.
