Overview

Between personal trials and new artistic horizons, Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann each expressed, through major works, the influence of their environment on their musical development. Brahms, after a first piano concerto that was received coldly, composed a second concerto in 1881, luminous and peaceful, in which the dialogue between the piano and the orchestra is delicately balanced. It will be performed by Beatrice Rana, winner of the Montreal International Music Competition in 2011. Schumann, for his part, found inspiration in the Rhine in Düsseldorf to write his "Rhenish" Symphony in 1851, a warm and expressive work that embodies German Romanticism.
