The massive complex is a premier venue in Abu Dhabi for theatre, cinema, conferences and exhibitions.
Abu Dhabi is home to the region’s biggest auditorium, the National Theatre. Inaugurated in 1981, the National Theatre is an integrated complex for staging plays, screening movies, and hosting conferences and exhibitions.
At the heart of the theatre is a 2,250-seat auditorium. Equipped with world-class lighting, sound and film projection facilities, the auditorium hosts plays, movies and large events.
The National Theatre also houses a lecture and conference hall that can accommodate up to 150 people, and an art gallery. The complex has two exhibition halls that display permanent collections of paintings, sculptures and other forms of art by Emirati artists.
Al Marsam Al Hor offers art classes and workshops by teachers and professional artists. Its classes provide teens and adults of all skill levels with the opportunity and techniques to explore a wide variety of mediums, styles and schools of art. It is the oldest arts education programme in Abu Dhabi and the first to implement a long-term programme for nurturing talent. Marsam Al Hor promotes creative expression and dialogue among all segments of society and has built a thriving community of artists and collaborative art studios for all artists, across styles and genres. It offers courses in drawing, painting, calligraphy, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery and fashion design.
The Children’s Art Centreprovides art classes for children 6-12 years old. The centre features hands-on studios, interactive spaces, a small children’s library and a waiting area for parents. The centre offers courses in drawing, painting, calligraphy, pottery, traditional handicrafts and paper crafts.
