Wayang Orang Bharata
Wayang, also known as wajang is a traditional form of puppet theatre play originated on the Indonesian island of Java. Wayang refers to the entire dramatic show.
Wayang is one of the peaks of the Indonesian's culture, which is the most prominent among many other cultures. Wayang traditions include acting, singing, music, drama, literature, painting, sculpture, carving, and symbolic arts. Wayang traditions, which continue to develop from time to time for more than a thousand years, is also a medium of information, preaching, education, philosophical understanding, and entertainment.
Wayang Orang Bharata has been established since 1963 under the name Wayang Orang Panca Murti and is based in the Realto Theather building, Senen area, Central Jakarta, which has now changed its name to the Wayang Orang Bharata building.
On July 5, 1972, the name Wayang Orang Panca Murti was changed to Wayang Orang Bharata (WOB) until now. WOB is home to more than a hundred dancers, musicians and artists across generations. WOB performs regularly every weekend.
The WOB building underwent major renovations from 2000 to 2004, and now the appearance of the WOB building in Senen, Central Jakarta is very capable. WOB also has an electronic screen on stage for Indonesian subtitles for each show.
WOB does not only present regular performances but is also open to collaborations with various parties in various forms. One of them is classical Javanese dance practice which is intended for all ages.
