Festival

Beethovenfest Bonn 2021

No poet could resist the silvery glow of the earth’s satellite, still less any composer. It transforms the shape of our world. ‘Moonlight’ is a romantic theme par excellence. It was made to order for the new subjectivity of experience that emerged around the year 1800 and led, in the course of the 19th century, to ever-deeper probes of pleasure and pain in feeling and orchestral colour.

Programme
Gustav Mahler: Piano Quartet in A minor
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano quartet in E flat major, Op.16
Gabriel Fauré: Piano Quartet no. 1 in C minor, Op.15
Overview

Born and nurtured at Karlsruhe University of Music, the Fauré Quartet has performed with the same members since 1995 – a rarity among chamber ensembles in this format. It is no accident that the ‘Faurés’ took their name from this French composer, whose music enjoyed a veritable boom in France after a decades-long dearth of chamber music.

Beethoven’s op. 16, originally scored for wind instruments with piano, sounds completely authentic in the composer’s own arrangement. A special gem is the passionate quartet movement by a very young Mahler. What would we give to have more than just the opening movement of this stroke of genius from the future symphonist!

Venue Info

Volksbankhaus - Bonn
Location   Westliche Karl-Friedrich-Straße 53

The VolksbankHaus was on 26./27. June 1997 opened.

At that time, the VolksbankHaus set new urban architectural accents in the Goldstadt. The whole object is based on the "house-in-house" system, where almost all areas of the house are enclosed by a glass façade and closed off by a unique roof in Europe.

The VolksbankHaus is interesting from an ecological point of view. Thanks to numerous computer simulations, the house could be designed in such a way that it achieves very low heating power compared to other similar objects.

An ice storage also provides pleasant coolness on the hot days of the year, without, however, the negative effects of an air conditioner to call out.
