Overview

Alphaville, the largest German synth-pop export and creator of the legendary 80s anthems "Big in Japan", "Sounds like a Melody" and "Forever Young", dare to take the step into the symphonic: the tickets for their 2023 anniversary tour on the big classical stages are on sale now!

Alphaville look back on 40 years of band history and take this as an opportunity to export their greatest hits to the symphonic world. Their new album "Eternally Yours", released in September 2022, is more than a translation of the Alphaville classics into the sound spectrum of a large orchestra. Rather, it is a symbiosis between Marian Gold's unique vocal abilities, the original Alphaville sound and the majestically powerful multifaceted nature of the large German Film Orchestra Babelsberg.
“To my ears, 'Eternally Yours' sounds like it was actually the first Alphaville album - only it wasn't released forty years ago. We didn't have an orchestra at hand at the time," explains lead singer Marian Gold: "All 23 pieces have become clearer through the editing, they are exposed, unleashed, liberated. Her true nature came out."
Arranging Alphaville's greatest hits from 40 years of band history and re-recording them with the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg is a logical step in this sense and at the same time a masterpiece. Marian Gold and his arrangers Max Knoth and Christian Lohr succeed in providing the musical content of the songs with the appropriate sound content. The first harbinger of this venture is the single "Big in Japan", which was released on April 29, 2022.
"Eternally Yours" is about permanence and transience, and the all-new, eponymous song reads like a suicide note. "I didn't write a line for the song myself, all the words and all the thoughts come from Shakespeare...", explains Gold: "I just put them together intertextually and adjusted them minimally to make them easier to sing for me."
For all Alphaville fans, this tour means a ticket to happy memories of great times and at the same time completely new impressions when their synth heroes of the 80s present themselves on the classical stages with full philharmonic force!

Venue Info

Vienna Konzerthaus - Vienna
Location   Lothringerstraße 20

The Konzerthaus is a concert hall located in Vienna, Austria, which opened in 1913. It is situated in the third district just at the edge of the first district in Vienna. Since it was founded it has always tried to emphasise both traditional and innovative musical styles.

In 1890, the first ideas for a Haus für Musikfeste (House for music festivals) came about. The idea of the new multi-purpose building was to be more interesting to the broader public than the traditional Vienna Musikverein. In addition to the concert hall, the first drawings by Ludwig Baumann for the Olympion included an ice-skating area and a bicycle club. In an attached open air area, 40,000 visitors would be able to attend events. Although the drawings were not accepted, today an ice skating area is situated right next to the building.

The Konzerthaus was finally built between 1911 and 1913. The architects were Fellner & Helmer; the work was done in cooperation with Ludwig Baumann.

The building is about 70×40 meters and had originally three halls, in which there can be simultaneous concerts, since they are sound-proofed. The original Art Nouveau building was partly destroyed during renovations and adaptions, but the building was reconstructed from original sketches in the 1970s. A historic organ was installed in the Konzerthaus by the Austrian firm Rieger in 1913. Between 1997 and 2000 the house was completely renovated.

  • Großer Saal, with 1,840 seats
  • Mozartsaal, with 704 seats
  • Schubertsaal, with 336 seats
  • Berio Saal was added during the latest renovations and seats up to 400 people

The Konzerthaus has the Vienna Symphony, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Wiener Singakademie and the Klangforum Wien in residence. Several subscriptions also include concerts by the Vienna Philharmonic and other organizations.
