Ciampac

A broad, verdant mountain basin, with the Sella Group - imposing - in the background and the dark rocks of Crepa Neigra testifying that here, in the heart of the Dolomites, was once a volcano. This is Ciampac, where the refuge of the same name was built in the eighties to serve the skiers who in winter come to enjoy themselves on these slopes (linked to the Sella Ronda) and the walkers who come up in summer when a children's playground is open. Summer is also when you may spot a few marmots, who announce their presence with their distinctive whistle.

Open

From December to April
From June to late September

Walks

It’s possible to walk from the Ciampac basin to the Rifugio Contrin via Forcia Neigra and Passo San Nicolò (3 ½ hours, difficulty E). On the other side of the valley, beyond Crepa Neigra, you can walk down to Fontanazzo along the wild Val di Crepa (3 hours, difficulty E). From Sella Brunech (1 hour, difficulty E) it’s possible to descend into Val Giumela (difficulty E), ascend Sass de Adam (difficulty EE) or set out on the Bruno Pederiva protected path towards Passo San Nicolò. For via ferrata fans there is the Finanzieri via ferrata on Colàc (2 ½ hours on the ferrata itself, difficult).
