Teatro Civico (Alghero)
The first plans to build the Civic Theater on public property in Calasanz were announced in 1842. At the time, the Mayor of Alghero was Giovanni Battista Garibaldi, a relative of the great Garibaldi himself. Construction began in 1858, by the architect F. Poggi, and the building was finished in 1862. The theater was inaugurated the same year.
The facade is Neoclassical in style, with six ionic pilaster strips set apart at regular intervals. On the ground floor, there are three arches with double lintels. They have wooden doors and a half-moon window above. Inside, the theater is divided into three sections; the front, where the atrium and foyer are found, the center with the stalls, circle seats and boxes, and the music school in the back.
