Beethovenfest Bonn 2021

No poet could resist the silvery glow of the earth’s satellite, still less any composer. It transforms the shape of our world. ‘Moonlight’ is a romantic theme par excellence. It was made to order for the new subjectivity of experience that emerged around the year 1800 and led, in the course of the 19th century, to ever-deeper probes of pleasure and pain in feeling and orchestral colour.

Overview

For more than 25 years amarcord has been proving that five male voices make an up-to-date ensemble. More than 1,500 acclaimed concerts in more than 50 countries as well as important prizes from critics are an impressive confirmation.

After their appearance at the Beethovenfest 2019 together with the Ensemble Modern, amarcord now returns with an a capella programme. The singers have dedicated themselves to the theme ’Through darkness to the light’ – this gives them the opportunity to show how confidently they know how to move in all eras and musical styles. The ensemble effortlessly alternates between Gregorian chants, Renaissance music and works by young composers specially written for amarcord. A very special evening!

Kirche St. Hildegard is a relatively modern church located in the city of Bonn.

Built in 1963, the church is renowned for its unusual architecture, impeccable interiors with decorative sculptures. The entire project of construction of the church was sponsored by the industrial family Wehrhahn in the region. It has recently undergone a major renovation and still retains its old beauty. The church, apart from its regular religious services, is also witness to a number of cultural events taking place in the region. A must-visit historical monument while visiting this part of Bonn.
