Programme
Overview
From Schumann’s poetic Fantasiestücke to the jazz‐and‐rock fire of Off Pist, clarinettist Julian Bliss dazzles with unbridled flair. Britten’s searching Third String Quartet and Brahms’s majestic String Quintet No. 2 complete a chamber‐music journey of lyricism and power.Embark on a vivid musical odyssey as clarinettist Julian Bliss unveils Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, its poetic dialogues rendered with shimmering nuance. He then ignites the stage with Off Pist, a toe‐tapping fusion of jazz swing and hard‐rock drive that clamors for movement. The intimacy deepens with Britten’s Third String Quartet, where four strings weave searching, introspective lines through shifting harmonies. Finally, Brahms’s String Quintet No. 2 unfolds in a tapestry of rich sonorities and expansive melodies, swelling to a majestic finale. Led by a Royal Opera House concertmaster alongside seasoned chamber veterans, this programme fuses technical brilliance with emotional resonance in a compelling evening of chamber music.
