Overview

Experience a lyrical odyssey at the 14th Highgate International Chamber Music Festival opener as Roderick Williams’ new arrangement of Die schöne Müllerin for baritone and string quartet takes flight. The evening also features Haydn’s sparkling Piano Trio No.11 and Bartók’s vibrant Romanian Folk Dances, blending folk soul with classical brilliance.Step into an evening of folk tradition and chamber mastery at the 14th Highgate International Chamber Music Festival. Roderick Williams’ acclaimed new arrangement of Franz Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin for baritone and string quartet transforms this beloved song cycle into an intimate dialogue of voice and strings, brought to life by the stirring warmth of baritone James Newby and the refined artistry of the Carducci Quartet. Haydn’s sparkling Piano Trio No.11 follows, its graceful interplay of piano, violin and cello shimmering with wit and elegance, before the programme culminates in Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances, whose vibrant rhythms and rustic charm conjure the spirit of mountain celebrations. This opening night weaves together folk song, lyricism and storytelling into a single, enthralling journey.
