Overview

Experience the grandeur of "Ludwig II: The Return of the King," an original German musical staged concert that brings to life the opulent and captivating story of Ludwig II.

This production stands out with its operatic music, showcasing a rich blend of classical singing and dramatic flair. Debuting in Shanghai, this newly crafted musical staged concert promises a visually stunning experience with its condensed yet refined stage design, complemented by exquisite costumes and lavish styling. Featuring a stellar cast and backed by a 65-piece orchestra, the production stays true to its roots, delivering a powerful rendition that immerses audiences in the classical and solemn music that defines Ludwig II's dreams and fairy tale legacy.

"Ludwig II: The King is Back" tells the life story of the "Fairy Tale King". Ludwig II ascended the throne at the age of 18 and was deeply influenced by Wagner's operas. He devoted his life to promoting peace and art. He built Neuschwanstein Castle, hoping to make his dream fairy tale come true. But the king's series of actions intensified the dissatisfaction of the opposition. They forced Dr. Guden to sign a certificate that the king suffered from mental illness and transferred the king to house arrest in the name of treatment. During a walk, Ludwig and the doctor both "died mysteriously", but Neuschwanstein Castle and his fairy tales have been passed down for a long time.

"Ludwig II: The King is Back" has been performed at the Neuschwanstein Castle Music Theater in Füssen, Germany since 2016, and has become the most famous original musical in Germany in recent years. As a musical with the integration of culture and tourism as its highlight, it is integrated with Neuschwanstein Castle and the surrounding landscapes, and the immersive atmosphere continues to attract many audiences and tourists. Neuschwanstein Castle witnessed the ideals and aspirations of Ludwig II. It was his refuge from the real world and his refuge in pursuit of art and peace.

The operatic musical style of the play is also a highlight. King Ludwig II fell deeply in love with Wagner's opera "Lohengrin" when he was 5 years old. After he ascended the throne, he invited Wagner to Munich and funded his creation, which earned Munich the title of "City of Music" at the time. As a tribute to Wagner, the entire work has a strong operatic attribute, and many tracks use classical singing. The melody in the play is played with solemn melodies by bassoons and strings, symbolizing the Neuschwanstein Castle, which was built brick by brick.
