Grafenegg Music Festival 2026

The Grafenegg Music Festival 2026 celebrates its 20th anniversary with a season of extraordinary artistic excellence, transforming the magnificent grounds of Grafenegg Castle into one of Europe’s most captivating destinations for classical music. From 14 August to 6 September 2026, audiences are invited to experience world-class performances beneath open summer skies, surrounded by historic gardens, elegant architecture, and the unique atmosphere of Lower Austria’s cultural landscape.

Programme
Kevin Puts: Emily - No Prisoner Be
Overview

At the centre of the first of four festival afternoon concerts in the new Rudolf Buchbinder Hall stands the great American poet Emily Dickinson. Pulitzer Prize winner Kevin Puts has created a song cycle that sets 24 of her poems to music, working closely with celebrated mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and the award-winning ensemble Time for Three.

According to Joyce DiDonato, each of these poems opens "its own cosmos", with the short title-giving poem at the end: "No Prisoner be — / Where Liberty — / Himself — abide with Thee —".

Sophisticated, intimate, and acoustically exceptional, the Rudolf Buchbinder Saal offers a concert experience where musical artistry and architectural elegance exist in perfect balance.

Located within the elegant cultural complex of Grafenegg, the Rudolf Buchbinder Saal is a refined concert venue dedicated to musical excellence and artistic intimacy. Named after the internationally acclaimed Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder, the hall reflects his deep connection to the world-renowned Grafenegg Festival and his vision of exceptional live music experiences.

Designed with both architectural elegance and acoustic precision in mind, the hall provides an ideal setting for chamber music, piano recitals, vocal performances, and smaller orchestral concerts.
