Russian baritone Rodion Pogossov made his Royal Opera House debut in 2009 singing in the Beloved Friend gala performance. He makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Marcello(La bohème).
Pogossov was born in Moscow. He participated in the Lindemann Young Artist Program at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, with subsequent roles for the company including Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Silvio (Pagliacci) and Schaunard. Other engagements include Rossini’s Figaro for Hamburg State Opera, Bavarian State Opera and Los Angeles Opera, Posa (Don Carlos) and Valentin (Faust) for Hamburg State Opera, Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) for Glyndebourne Festival, Eugene Onegin for Welsh National Opera, Papageno for Los Angeles Opera, Don Giovanni for Oviedo Opera, Raimbaud (Le Comte Ory) for Seattle Opera, Lescaut (Manon Lescaut) for Bavarian State Opera, Silvio for Norwegian National Opera, Guglielmo for Spoleto Festival and Marcello (La bohème) and Papageno for Cincinnati Opera.
Pogossov’s many concert appearances include Boulanger’s Faust et Hélène with the Oslo Philharmonic, Rachmaninoff’s Spring Cantata with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Carmina Burana with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and in Madrid, Renard with the Metropolitan Opera Chamber Ensemble and James Levine at Carnegie Hall, and recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Moscow’s National Concert Hall, Sweden’s Vara Konserthus and for the Rosenblatt Recital Series. His recordings include songs by Rachmaninoff, Mahler, Tchaikovsky and Grieg for EMI and Rachmaninoff songs for Delphian.
