The Rifugio Rosetta - "Giovanni Pedrotti" or only Rifugio Rosetta or Rifugio Giovanni Pedrotti (German Rosetta hut) is a refuge of the Trentino Alpenverein (SAT) in the Palagruppe.
Location and surroundings
The Rifugio Rosetta is located on the edge of the plateau of the Pale di San Martino in the municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza in the province of Trento at 2581 m s.l.m. Just a little further west of the hut is the Passo Rosetta and the Cima Rosetta.
History
The Rosetta hut was built in 1889, making it one of the oldest shelters of the SAT. The tourist and alpine interest in the Dolomites, which increased at the turn of the century, meant that the hut was first extended in 1896. Another project at the nearby Passo Rosetta to build a much larger and more comfortable house, did not go beyond the planning phase and was abandoned due to the outbreak of the First World War.
In the war, the Rifugio burned down to the outer walls, so that it had to be rebuilt after the war by the SAT again. This second cabin had only 12 beds and in order to meet the renewed interest in the mountains of the Palegruppe, the hut was extended in 1931 to around 40 seats. During the Second World War, however, the same fate befell the Rifugio as in the First World War almost thirty years earlier, as it was burned down by German troops as a retaliatory measure.
1952, the meanwhile third construction was inaugurated and the name of the refuge with the name of the third president of the Trentino Alpine Association SAT, Giovanni Pedrotti, extended. With the 1957 inauguration of the Rosetta cable car, which is only a few minutes walk away in the direction of Passo Rosetta, the Rifugio Rosetta Giovanni Pedrotti experienced another significant upswing.
Between 2010 and 2011, the refuge was extensively modernized, so that it can now be used for ski tourers in winter.
