Overview

Young love unfolds amid the splendour of the Jia household in the first part of this kunqu drama.

Entry with a paper ticket only.

Adapted from Cao Xueqin’s novel, Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre presents the first half of the story of Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu. Their affection deepens while the prospect of another marriage causes pain; family punishment and lavish preparations for an imperial visit expose the tensions beneath the household’s splendour. Weng Jiahui plays Baoyu and Zhu Bingzhen plays Daiyu. The production credits Cao Qijing as chief director, Xu Chunlan as director and Wang Xufeng as playwright, with vocal music by Wang Dayuan and music by Dong Weijie. Performed in Chinese.
