Palais de Justice

The court of Besançon brings together on one site the appeal court, the court, and the commercial court of Besancon. The part of the main facade between the two corner pavilions has been classified as a historical monument since October 14, 1911.

The vestibule with its grille and decor and the grand staircase; the following rooms with their decor: the room for solemn audiences, the room of the lost steps, the first and the second rooms and the fireplace of the indictment room have been the subject of a registration as historical monuments since December 27, 1979.

The Besançon Court of Appeal occupies the premises of the former Besançon parliament, built in 1585 by the architect Hugues Sambin and remodeled in the following centuries.

The palace was rebuilt from 1745 to 1749.

In 1991, a large modern architectural project intended to bring together the magistrates' courts, the high courts, and the commercial court of Besançon was adopted. The work, entrusted to the architect Henri Gaudin, was completed in 2003.
