Municipal Theater of Dole

Municipal Theater of Dole

The Théâtre de Dole is an Italian-style municipal theatre of neoclassical architecture built between 1840 and 1843 in the upper part of the town of Dole, in the Jura. Owned by the City, the performance hall has been managed by Les Scènes du Jura since 1997, and regularly hosts dance performances, concerts and theatrical performances.

History

The theatre was built between 1840 and 1843, on plans by the engineer-architect Martin, at the request of an intellectual elite from Doloise. It was inaugurated on June 4, 1843, in the presence of all the aristocracy, by Léonard Dusillet, former mayor of the city.

The place chosen is the top of the city, in the rue du Mont-Roland, which can be explained by the fact that it is here that many of the city's notables live, in private mansions.

It was managed by the municipality until 1997 when its organization merged with that of the Lons-le-Saunier theatre to form the Scènes du Jura. This structure became a national stage in 2013. In 2015, the theatre closed its doors for an in-depth restoration, which should be completed in 2020 or 2021.

Description

Its facade is in neoclassical style, with central avant-corps, columns.

The theatre hall is an Italian-style hall, with boxes and balconies originally lined with blue velvet, and decor painted on wood and canvas mounted by Och and Chatillon.
