Monumental Stadium

The Estadio Mas Monumental, traditionally known as El Monumental or the River Plate Stadium, is a historic and world-renowned football stadium located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Opened in 1938, it is the official home ground of Club Atletico River Plate and the primary venue for the Argentina national football team, recognized globally for its immense size and passionate football atmosphere.

The venue is officially named Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti after a former club president, but it widely uses the commercial name Estadio Mas Monumental due to a naming rights partnership. Located in the Belgrano neighborhood of Buenos Aires, the stadium is commonly referred to by fans simply as El Monumental or the River Plate Stadium because of its iconic ownership.

Following major modernization projects completed in recent years, the stadium expanded its capacity to over 84,000 spectators, making it the largest football stadium in South America. The design features a massive continuous ring of stands that brings fans closer to the pitch after the historic removal of the old athletics track.

As a temple of South American football, El Monumental has hosted the 1978 FIFA World Cup Final, where Argentina won its first world title, alongside multiple Copa Libertadores finals and historic Superclasico matches against rivals Boca Juniors. Beyond sports, it is the premier venue for mega-concerts in Argentina, having hosted legendary international artists such as The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Coldplay.
