About

Born in Barcelona, Maria Miró is graduated in Medicine with Honours, from the University of Barcelona. As a child, she studied flute and piano and sang in the Vivaldi Choir of the IPSI School. She studied singing at the prestigious Liceu Conservatoire of Barcelona, with soprano Carmen Bustamante, and at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) of Manchester, with mezzo-soprano Barbara Robotham, where she completed a Master of Music in Solo Performance- Voice, with Distinction. She won the First Prize at the 22nd Mirabent and Magrans Competition 2014 and First Prize and Zarzuela Prize at the III International Singing Competition City of Elda 2014 among other singing prizes in Spain; and during her stay in the UK, she was Finalist of the Clonter Opera Prize and The Elizabeth Harwood Memorial Prize, and Highly Commended in the Cronshaw Song Cycle Prize. She has recieved advice by Montserrat Caballé, Jaume Aragall, Ana María Sánchez, Darina Takova, Julius Drake, Laura Sarti, Cynthia Sanner, Ana Luisa Chova, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Dalton Baldwin, Elisabetta Fiorillo, Viorica Cortez and Esperanza Melguizo.

As a solo recitalist, she has performed in many Festivals and Concert Series throughout Spain and the United Kingdom (Xarxa de Músiques de Catalunya, Fundació Frederic Mompou, 30 minuts de música al Mas i Mas, Les Veus del MEAM, Ciclo de conciertos Concertante, Les Veus del Monestir de Pedralbes, Setmana del Lied Català, among others). In September 2015, Maria did a recital in the Tribute to Mr. Manuel Bertrand at Saló dels Miralls in Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona. In April 2014, German soprano Angela Denoke asked Maria to collaborate with her (as a narrator and soprano), in her Recital about Kurt Weill which took place in Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona. Maria has premièred songs by the Catalan composers A. Ros-Marbà and Ramon Ribé and, from 2006 to 2009, she was the soprano soloist of the ensemble Com.Cat Trio (with violinist Laura Rafecas and pianist Carles Puig), which broadcasted a repertoire of twentieth-century Catalan composers. In the oratorio repertoire, she has performed as a soprano soloist in Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42 (last one conducted by Manel Valdivieso at L’Auditori of Barcelona).

In the next season, she will return to Teatro Real of Madrid (Norma) and to Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona (Il Trovatore).
