Leipzig Bach Fest 2023

The Bachfest 2023 will take place from 8 to 18 June. Johann Sebastian Bach’s next milestone birthday lies a little further in the future: in 2035, we will celebrate the anniversary of his 350th birthday … But before that we will celebrate the 300th anniversary of Bach’s appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas Church – in 2023!

Programme
Johann Sebastian Bach: Violin Concerto in A minor, BWV1041
George Frideric Handel: Vanne lungi dal mio petto, from: Amadigi di Gaula, HWV 11
Antonio Vivaldi: Non ti lusinghi la crudeltade, from: Tito Manlio, RV 738
George Frideric Handel: Scoglio d`immota fronte, from: Publio Cornelio Scipione oder Scipione oder Scipio, HWV 20
George Frideric Handel: Falsa immagine, m’ingannasti, from: Ottone, re di Germania, HWV 15
Antonio Vivaldi: Rete, lacci e strali adopra, from: Dorilla in Tempe, RV 709
Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto No. 1 in E Major, op. 8, RV 269, "Spring" (La primavera)
Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto in G minor RV 315 "L'estate (The Summer)"
Antonio Vivaldi: Violin Concerto in F major, Op.8 no. 3, RV 293 "L'autunno” (Autumn)
Antonio Vivaldi: Violin Concerto in F minor, Op.8 no. 4, RV 297 "L'inverno" (Winter)
Overview

"The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi are not only among the best-known works by this Venetian composer, but also among the most popular pieces of classical music. In an inimitable way, Vivaldi succeeded in converting the loveliness of spring, the summer thunderstorm, the hunting scene of autumn or the clammy frost of winter into pure instrumental music. The Ensemble Europa Galante juxtaposes these master concerts not only with a violin concerto by Bach (who was a big fan of Vivaldi), but also with dramatic operatic scenes by Handel and Vivaldi, sung by soprano Roberta Invernizzi. Italian passion is guaranteed!

Venue Info

Leipzig Drama Theater - Leipzig
Location   Bosestraße 1

The Leipzig Theater is a municipal theater company in Leipzig. Since 1957, its main venue has been the theater on Bosestraße in Leipzig's "Schauspielviertel". In 2013 Enrico Lübbe took over the position of director.

After the Central Theater was destroyed in World War II, the building was rebuilt between 1954 and 1957. The result was a neoclassical building that is now a listed building.

In addition to the main stage of the Schauspiel Leipzig, whose auditorium (since 2013) holds 672 spectators, there are other venues within the building that offer space for modern drama or performative formats. The backstage (formerly "Theater hinterm Eisernen") is characterized by the special closeness to the actors. The "Diskothek" on the corner of Bosestraße and Dittrichring is a platform for young authors.
