Leipzig Drama Theater (Leipzig, Germany)
Leipzig Drama Theater
The Leipzig Theater is a municipal theater company in Leipzig. Since 1957, its main venue has been the theater on Bosestraße in Leipzig's "Schauspielviertel". In 2013 Enrico Lübbe took over the position of director.
After the Central Theater was destroyed in World War II, the building was rebuilt between 1954 and 1957. The result was a neoclassical building that is now a listed building.
In addition to the main stage of the Schauspiel Leipzig, whose auditorium (since 2013) holds 672 spectators, there are other venues within the building that offer space for modern drama or performative formats. The backstage (formerly »Theater hinterm Eisernen«) is characterized by the special closeness to the actors. The »Diskothek« on the corner of Bosestraße and Dittrichring is a platform for young authors.
