Violin and cello: when talent flies high
Two stars in the contemporary musical firmament, a violinist and a cellist, both were honoured with the prestigious Credit Suisse Young Artist Award while still at a very young age.
Born in 1986 in Norway, Vilde Frang made her debut at the age of 12 with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and then studied in Hamburg and Kronberg. She has played with many prestigious orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic and the London Philharmonic, the St Petersburg Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Paris. Her expressive power and complete technical mastery are borne out by the honours her recordings have received, including Gramophone Editor's Choice, a Classic BRIT Award, an Edison Klassiek Award and the Diapason d'Or.
Nicolas Altstaedt is from Germany and is considered one of the most creative and versatile musicians on the scene. He is currently Artist in Residence at the NDR Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg but has performed regularly with renowned musicians and leading orchestras, including the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. In 2012, he was chosen by Gidon Kremer to succeed him as artistic director of the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival, and in 2014 by Adam Fischer to become artistic director of the Haydn Philharmonie.
