The 74th edition of the Besançon International Music Festival, as well as the final rounds of the 57th International Competition for Young Conductors, will take place from 10 to 25 September 2021.

Overview

The magnificent Basel Symphony Orchestra, invited in 2015 to the Festival and for the Competition, returns this time to Dole for a unique program dedicated to the great master symphonist Johannes Brahms, located at the crossroads between classicism and romanticism. The success of his 3rd symphony was felt as far as America: sometimes nicknamed “the Heroic”, on the contrary, it is sober and restrained, very poetic, evoking a plethora of feelings. The great Russian pianist Alexander Melnikov will join the orchestra for Concerto No. 1, the supreme work of his youth, imbued with a touching and warm character.

La Commanderie is a performance hall located in Dôle, a town located in the Jura department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.

The Main Hall can accommodate 1,700 people seated and 3,000 people standing. Its modular space benefits from exceptional acoustics creating its own warmth and intimacy. It regularly hosts conferences, shows, and trade fairs.

Other rooms, with multiple possible configurations, make it possible to organize other types of events.
Each configuration has its own geometry, atmosphere, and light. In Show configuration, the room is dark. The overhead lighting is obscured. Side walls in wood carved with acoustic reliefs envelop the spectators. 8 tier blocks allow many combinations. In Sport configuration, the space of the room expands. The hall partitions open. Space is bathed in natural light.
